Environment

Fell and Extract is a short environmental documentary I made after spending two years working with the UK’s horse-logging community. Set in the lake district, it follows horse-logger George Read, as he and his team of apprentices break in a new horse in the summer of 2013.

Horse-logging is a sustainable, efficient and environmentally sound method of extracting timber from sensitive or difficult to access areas. These images show a group of British Horse Loggers as they take part in their annual competition. The two day challenge involves cutting, transporting and stacking a set amount of timber, and navigating a course which simulates many of the complex obstacles they meet in their work.
